![]() Each gun was given a caliber specific carrier, so attempts to cycle the wrong ammo is generally unsuccessful. bullet and was given a faster 1-16 twist rate to better stabilize the longer bullet. The long rifle was a late edition, had a 40 gr. bullet and any model 90 chambered for either of these had a 1-20 twist rate. ![]() The short and long cartridge use the same 29 gr. I don't trust the CB ammo not to stick in the bore.Īs has already been mentioned, the 1890 was made for specific calibers and was never made to handle short, long, and long rifle interchangeably as were the 1906 and 62. Probably the best thing to do is to put in an order for a brick or case of 22 Long high speed ammo and wait. I may have one box of federal high speed longs from my dad in my 22 ammo collection but I shot up most of his stash with shorts, longs and long rifle ammo when I was a kid replacing that with mainly promotional 22 Long rifle ammo. I would bet some 22 longs are still out there at gun shows but may be hard to find. Now only CCI offers a 22 short hollow point and high speed 22 Longs in addition to their CB offerings. Winchester made 22 short hollow points until the early 80s. I know Remington, Winchester and Federal all made high speed 22 longs probably till the 70s, dropping them by the late 80s. If so you'll be able to shoot it with commonly available new production 22 short ammo. You may also be able to put a wood dowel spacer in the carrier if the rounds need to be a certain length to function. I would try 22 shorts in the gun and see if the mechanism will run them as is. Winchester has put out CB longs in the last ten years. ![]() I don't think Long Rifle ammo will chamber unless you modify the gun.
